Tim clocks up miles for Clydesdale food bank

School teacher Tim Clancey has set himself a challenge for the Easter holiday period – cycling 100 miles across the South of Scotland on Green Wheels, his elderly hybrid bike, and raising approximately £1000 which would be distributed to food banks in Clydesdale, Dumfriesshire and Tweeddale.

Tim, pictured with Jim Benton-Evans of Peeblesshire Food Bank, said: “Food banks deserve our support because they provide practical, immediate assistance to those who need it most.

“We also need to understand why referrals to food banks have increased so dramatically in the last five years.

“With a general election coming up, it is important that this issue is discussed on the doorsteps and at hustings meetings.

“By undertaking this challenge I hope it will encourage people to think about food banks and find out more about the work they do.”

The money raised will go to food banks based in Carluke, Peebles and Dumfries.

Liz Barthram, from Clydesdale Food Bank, added: “The Clydesdale Food Bank serves a huge chunk of South Lanarkshire from its hub in Carluke.

“In 2014 we had 546 referrals which fed 998 people, so we need a constant supply of funds.”
