Jenny Griggs from Nova International, organisers of the Great Women’s 10k, now in its 22nd year, said: “The race, which starts on Nithsdale Road, runs through Pollokshields and Pollok Park before a big finish on Mosspark Boulevard.

“There is a real party atmosphere at this event which is boosted by the route entertainment along the way.

“The support for this event and ladies participating is fantastic — even in previous years when there has been bad weather, residents have came out to support the runners, offering sweets, water and cheering the women on to the finish.”

Olympian Eve Muirhead and Radio Clyde DJ Cassi will be running, as well as many southsiders.

Laura Wood, from Shawlands, will take part with 30 friends as part of her hen weekend while Busby’s Laura Campbell will run for Kieran Mess Foundation, which helped her niece Katy Wymant when she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Southsider Esther Muir is running for Yorkhill children’s charity. It will be her first 10K.

The 28-year-old said: “I have a congenital heart problem and wanted to prove to myself that nothing would stop me being fit and healthy. Yorkhill was outstanding when I was ill as a child.”
