Top marks for Isobel Mair in report

Isobel Mair won praise and the top rating of ‘excellent’ in nearly half the categories looked at.

Inspectors said they were ‘more than satisfied’ with the overall quality of education provision — and that there was ‘innovative practice’ that they wanted to share with other councils.

They inspected the school, which caters for children with additional support needs.

Inspectors also visited the adjoining family centre, as well as the councilwide sensory and inclusion support services.

Among the highlights in their report are the positive, nurturing and warm relationships throughout.

The report also praised the school’s creative approaches to involving children and young people in their learning, leading to rich, meaningful learning experiences.

The school’s support for learners using high-tech communication aids was also highlighted.

As was its integrated and inclusive approaches in assessing children and young people’s needs.

It commended the school’s self-evaluation which it says impacts positively on pupils’ experiences, achievements, health and wellbeing.

The leadership of the head teacher was described as ‘visionary’.

Mari Wallace, head teacher at Isobel Mair, said: “To be judged ‘excellent’ in so many categories is outstanding.”

Education and equalities convenor Elaine Green, said: “It is a wonderful school 
and they deserve this recognition.”
