Town in the running for race route

AN ECONOMIC boost is on the way for Kilsyth as plans to hold an annual extreme running event in the area look set to get the green light.

Glasgow-based sports club Adventure Zone Scotland, who specialise in racing with a difference, have recruited the help of Kilsyth and Villages Community Forum to organise a 13-mile trail run in October.

The race will utilise the area’s rich path network which connects the town to Croy, Kelvinhead, Banton, Twechar and the Forth and Clyde Canal.

If the race is a success, organisers plan to plough any money raised into holding a 26-mile trail run in spring 2013, which would then go on to be a regular fixture on the calendar – with hopes high that the town’s shops and services could benefit from spin-offs suchas increased numbers of visitors to the town.
