Tragedy as civic week goes up in smoke

THE organisers behind Kilsyth Civic Week have vowed not to let a fire which destroyed all the equipment used for the event affect this year’s celebrations.

The committee will fundraise to replace items which were lost after the building they were stored in was set on fire at around 10pm on Monday, November 19.

Two appliances - from Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch fire stations - responded to the fire at the building just off Balmalloch Road.

Police say items including a rip saw, heat gun, a box of tools and two silver trophies were stolen before the building was set on fire although some have been recovered nearby.
