

Two people were rescued from a burning block of flats in Abronhill in the early morning hours of Saturday.
Fire engines from both Cumbernauld and Kilsyth rushed to Ash Road at 1.45 a.m. where they found a flat on the second floor well alight.

Neighbours looked on in horror fearing that the fire would spread but firefighters mounted a full-scale operation which saw six rescuers enter the burning property to prevent a full-scale tragedy
They pulled the male householder to safety, but their work did not end there.
Their rescue attempt extended to his upstairs neighbour who found herself trapped in the flat.

Paramedics attended both residents immediately and rushed the male to Monklands Hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation. The woman was treated at the scene.
