The travel shop used the big birthday celebration as a chance to fundraise for Cancer Support Scotland in honour of sales consultant Gillian Irvine, who is currently recovering from breast cancer.

Gillian’s battle with the illness inspired her colleagues to take on a sporting challenge for the charity; a cycle around the island of Majorca — a distance of more than 300 miles — without leaving the shop.

Participants took to an exercise bike in store, and between them cycled the route in five days, hoping to raise £1 for every mile covered — and all that hard work paid off, as the team’s efforts raised £547.

Gillian said: “Cancer Support Scotland really helped me, and I was thriled when my colleagues decided to celebrate the 10th anniversary by raising money for such a good cause.

“We’re a close-knit team at the Mearns branch, and the company have been so supportive throughout my treatment. I’m really proud of what they’ve achieved.”

The event also included a treat for the store’s first ever customers, Alister and June Fraser, who were presented with a bottle of champagne.
