Trek of a lifetime on offer for East Ren teens

The two-week trip, organised by East Renfrewshire Council’s young person’s services, will include trekking in the High Atlas mountains, culminating in climbing North Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Toubkal — exceeding the requirements for the Duke of Edinburgh gold award.

Places are available for up to 20 teens aged 16-17, costing £300 each — although a number will be fully funded for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Paul Tulloch, challenge leader and mountain expedition expert, said: “We are looking for young people who can demonstrate maturity, self-discipline and a passion for adventure, people and culture.

“You must also be able to commit to at least two hours per week to plan and prepare for the trip over a 13-month period.

“If this sounds like you, we would love to meet you.”

An information has been arranged for Thursday at Barrhead High, 7.30pm, for parents and interested youngsters to find out more.

Those selected will take part in a 13-month training programme before heading off next summer, as well as undertaking fundraising for the trip.

The deadline for Challenge Morocco applications is Monday, April 6.
