Tribute paid to eight-year-old Wiston Primary pupil Charles Kimm

Wiston Primary School head teacher Elma McGregor said: “Everyone is deeply sad to hear the tragic news of Charles’ death.

“We are a small, close knit community and feel this loss deeply. We are mourning the loss of someone so young, so full of life and potential.

“Charles was a typical boy: he loved all sports, particularly rugby and football, and was happiest outdoors.

“He was popular with a mischievous sense of humour and an infectious giggle. He will be sorely missed.”

The eight-year-old died last Thursday afternoon, following an accident at his home at Wyndales Lodge, Symington, which involved a 4x4 car and trailer.

Police said that it appeared the car was reversing through a gate when the young boy was struck by the vehicle. Emergency services attended but, tragically, Charles died at the scene.

Charles’ family were too upset to speak to the Gazette this week.

However, neighbour Tom Robertson summed up the shock in the local community.

He said: “They are a really nice family and for this to happen is just terrible. Both parents are upstanding members of the community. My heart goes out to them. It’s very sad.”

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
