Tributes pour in for much loved M&S worker

Alan Begg passed away at the age of just 57 after suffering a heart attack on November 18.

Alan was a well-known and popular member of staff at Marks and Spencer in Bishopbriggs.

He was a champion for charity at the store and helped them raise thousands of pounds for good causes.

Alan lived in Bishopbriggs all his life.

His sister Pat said: “Alan had a minor heart attack and was on the road to recovery, but he suffered another heart attack. It was a real shock.

“He had been staying with us when he came out of hospital and had started sleeping at his own house, but was still here every day.

“Alan loved working in M&S and was even there on his days off.

“He was fun loving and very sociable. Alan was very well known.

Alan worked as a travel agent in Glasgow for around 25 years before joining M&S 10 years ago.

He was passionate about travel and loved trains, boats and planes.

Until recently he was active at Bishopbriggs Bowling Club.

Lesley Cruden, who runs the customer services desk at the Bishopbriggs M&S, paid tribute to Alan. She said: “Everyone is in total shock and devastation. Alan was an absolute legend.

“He was so popular with customers and was the only person to have a queue at his till. There’s such a void in the store.

“Alan was very good a collecting money for charity and we were always on the leader board because of him.”

Messages also poured in on the store’s Facebook page.

Alan’s funeral took place yesterday (Thursday) in Cadder Parish Church.
