Trouble ahead for Lanark traffic as roadworks begin

Vital resurfacing work is set to go ahead later this month on Lanark's Bannatyne Street and Ladyacre Road with diversions and a temporary one-way system planned to keep traffic moving throughout.

The work is set to be carried out in two phases, the first starting this Tuesday June 21, when Bannatyne Street will be closed from its junction with High Street to the junction with Woodstock Road.

The road will be closed for up to five days, during which all traffic travelling west from Ladyacre Road/St Vincent Street towards Bannatyne street will be directed to turn right onto Woodstock Road, left onto Kenilworth Road, left onto St Leonard Street and then continue on to High Street.

Traffic coming from the direction of High Street and St Leonard Street will follow the same diversion route which will be signposted in both directions.

The second stage of the work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 28 with a one-way system in place the full length of Bannatyne Street, St Vincent Place and Ladyacre Road in order to maintain access to all shops, properties and services throughout the works.

Bannatyne Street/Ladyacre Road will be closed to all westbound traffic between the junction at Hyndford Road and St Vincent Place to the junction at Woodstock road for a maximum of five days.

Drivers coming from Hyndford Road wishing to access St Vincent Place and Ladyacre Road should follow the diversion route via Wellgate to the junction at Lanark High Street, travel up the High Street and turn right onto Bannatyne Street.

Meanwhile, traffic coming from the bus station, Morrison’s Supermarket and Whitelees Road will be required to turn left and follow diversions.

Meanwhile, traffic entering the one way system from St Mary`s Church and the Esso filling station will be required to turn right and follow diversions as signposted.

South Lanarkshire Council’s Head of Roads and Transportation Gordon Mackay said; “There will inevitably be some disruption during these essential resurfacing works but I would ask that drivers

be patient and follow the diversions as marked.

“Once completed, the resurfacing will deliver a significant improvement to this busy stretch of road. South Lanarkshire Council would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these necessary works may cause.”
