A treasure trove of historical artefacts have been discovered on the Kirkintilloch Town Hall site, including a Roman nail and a piece of Roman pottery thought to date back to around 160AD or earlier.

Archaeologists were stunned by the finds made next to the iconic building, which was originally opened 110 years ago this month.

Work is now underway to transform the town hall into a centre for heritage, arts, culture and community use.
