Trust launches community project fund

ENVIRONMENTAL charity, Central Scotland Forest Trust (CSFT) has launched its annual Community Project Fund with over £12,000 available to help local community groups and schools in North Lanarkshire with environmental projects.

Supported by Scottish Natural Heritage, CSFT’s Community Project Fund is now in its tenth year, providing one-off grants to groups and schools who want to help to increase biodiversity and make improvements to their local environment.

All projects must be within the Central Scotland Forest area, with applicants submitting a short application form no later than Friday 18th November 2011, detailing information of how their project will benefit the environment in the local community. Awards of up to £500 will then be made to successful applicants.

Simon Rennie, chief executive of CSFT, said: “The Community Project Fund is now in its tenth year and continues to be a great success. We are pleased to be able to support the local community in North Lanarkshire to encourage biodiversity and improve their surrounding environment.

“Last year, money was awarded to 28 different organisations to help with their environmental plans which included the creation of a sensory garden, the development of bee friendly natural habitats in urban, urban fringe and rural areas and the construction of an outdoor area, planned, designed and planted by children.

“We are encouraging all organisations and schools in the Central Scotland Forest area to apply for funding this year to make a positive difference to their community. The money will be allocated and successful applicants will find out by the end of December 2011.”

John O’Keefe, Scottish Natural Heritage area officer, added: “We are keen to encourage the local community in North Lanarkshire to get involved in improving their local greenspace. This could be anything from a community wildlife garden to a riverside walkway for which these small grants could make a big difference.”
