Tummel Bridge video an unexpected YouTube hit

FOOTAGE of Cumbernauld’s Tummel Bridge being dismantled has become an unexpected YouTube hit – with 1100-plus viewers tuning in worldwide!

The 40-metre footbridge, across Central Way, took demolition crews more than 14 hours to bring down. When the story broke, the News and Chronicle flagged up an internet link to the video here on our website. The footage came courtesy of North Lanarkshire Council who are overseeing the operation via Campsies Centres Cumbernauld Ltd.

And the film attracted interest from people in countries such as Spain, North America, Germany and Australia!

A spokesman for NLC said: “We are delighted at so many people taking the time to view the video and to the News and Chronicle for providing a link on its web site. The operation was completed overnight on January 28-29, so not many people would have seen it coming down.”

The £1.2 million replacement for the bridge is being built in England.
