TV show brings 200 jobs to Cumbernauld

Cumbernauld looks set to become the home of a custom-made film and television studio which could bring a mammoth 200 jobs to the town.

The production of Outlander which will be made by cable network Starz and Sony Pictures television is an adaptation of a the best selling series of books by Diana Gabaldon. A time travel drama, it looks set to be filmed in a converted warehouse later this year.

It will star former River City and Doctors star Sam Heughan and will have a 2000 strong cast drawn from all across the UK. The production was attracted to the area by new tax breaks for big television productions, and is close to confirming Cumbernauld as the venue.

MP Gregg McClymont said: “I’m delighted that Hollywood is coming to Cumbernauld to shoot Outlander. It’s great news and hopefully just the beginning for Cumbernauld.

And MSP Jamie Hepburn said: “It is absolutely fantastic news. Hollywood coming to Cumbernauld helps promote the town and can hopefully act as a local economic boost.
