Two more Lanark Airshow memorials planned

YOUNG Lanarkians are likely to grow up with plenty to remind them that the town hosted Scotland's first airshow back in 1910.

For the Airshow Committee has been so successful in raising funds that, in addition to the sculpture being created, there is enough money for a play plane at the Loch.

And there could be even be a second plane, as Rolls Royce is interested in having its apprentices work on a commemorative aircraft.

"It is amazing how the money has come in," said Airshow Committee chairman Sylvia Russell. "I have been astounded.

"We met all our targets, and I am absolutely thrilled."
