Untold traffic woes for Games venue residents

Mount Florida Community Council has published a parking guide for residents affected by Commonwealth Games events at Hampden Park.

With 3,000 workers and 38,000 spectators expected per session, the stadium is one of Glasgow 2014’s biggest venues — but the community council believes organisers have not distributed enough information for those living nearby.

MoFloCoCo chair Chris Carus told The Extra: “Our concern has been for local people planning for the Games, which we believe are a very positive for the city.

“All we want is for residents to be able to plan their own lives around the events.

“We’re finding that some restrictions haven’t been communicated, they’re not clear and they’re not distributed widely.

“We want to get our little bit of Glasgow ready, so we’ve invested time, unpaid, to pull together whatever information we can find and put it in accessible place.”

Restrictions will include access blocked to Advie Place, May Terrace and Hampden Terrace up to two and a half hours prior to events, while Prospecthill Road may be closed by police to allow safe passage for spectators.
