Vandals derail Condorrat’s tiny train

A powerful symbol of community effort that is loved by children and adults alike has fallen prey to vandals in an act that has rocked Condorrat.

Last year, Condorrat Tenants and Residents Association created an ornamental train which took pride of place at Condorrat Ring Road near Etive Drive.

The sturdy little locomotive was made partly of recycled materials from old mining carts some of which were donated by Summerlee Heritage Centre.

Local children were heavily involved in their construction during the summer holidays.

They were among the creations which landed Cumbernauld a Beautiful Scotland award after judges were impressed by the way that the community had rallied together to make Condorrat look better.

Now its midsection has been destroyed after an incident overnight on Saturday.
