Vandals ruin Old Brig, Kirkfieldbank

A KIRKFIELDBANK man has hit out at vandals who have caused damage to the village's Old Brig.

Gary Hamilton is unhappy after discovering a number of stones,

weighing between 20 and 30 kilos, were thrown into the River Clyde and a guard rail bent beyond repair.

He now fears the Old Brig, which is over 200-years-old, is in danger of becoming a ruin rather than a relic.

He said: "The Old Brig was damaged nine months ago when a tree fell during a storm and it has not been repaired since.

"The council has not been to repair it and that has led to these yobs deciding it's okay to further damage the bridge.

"At this rate the Old Brig will become a ruin never mind a relic."

A council spokeswoman confirmed that temporary barriers have been erected and maintenance work is to be carried out.
