Views sought on kids’ park

A MEETING was held on Wednesday night to discuss the creation of a £160,000 play area in Cumbernauld Community Park.

North Lanarkshire Council and the Friends of Cumbernauld Community Park urged community members to attend the consultation to gain a broad spectrum of views.

A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council said: “The proposed play area would be the council’s major play area development for the year at a total cost of £160,000. We hope as many people as possible come along to the evening to make sure their views are heard.”

Barney Kinsler, Chairman of Friends of Cumbernauld Community Park, also hoped for a large turnout and a comprehensive range of views.

Barney said: “The funding is in place and we think we have picked the best site for the park as well, but we want and need to have the consultation.

“We want to get children along because they are the end-users and the park is for them. They often have quite different ideas from the grown-ups.

“We’ve not decided what to put in it yet, we’re leaving that up to the consultation, so it’s important for as many people as possible to come.”

And there are hopes it could attract people from elsewhere.

Barney said: “Hopefully it will be a destination for people to come to visit and enjoy.”
