Villagers upset over Walston Church plans

VILLAGERS have grave concerns about plans to convert the deconsecrated Walston Parish Church in Oggcastle Road into a single house with car parking.

Blackmount Community Council secretary Barry Rosindale fears any renovation works could lead to the digging up of glebeland which was once a burial site.

“Almost everybody in Walston is objecting to this application,” he said. “The community council is expressing concerns on their behalf.

“We believe that this church is entirely unsuited to being converted to a dwelling.

“There is a burial ground around this building which the applicant would be digging up, which is absolutely outrageous.”

For the applicant, architect Alan Hardie gave assurances that no graves would be damaged during any renovation work around Walston Church.
