"We are looking for volunteers to fill diverse positions, which include key supporting roles behind the scenes and providing information and assistance to our visitors as greeters and stewards.

"There will also be a requirement for specialist volunteers with particular skills such as interpreters and medical staff, and volunteers with experience in sports ranging from swimming to football and sailing to golf."

There is no deadline for applications at this stage, but would-be volunteers are being asked to submit their application as early as possible, so they can be more easily assigned to their chosen role.

You can apply to volunteer at: www.icg-lanarkshire2011.com or by sending a completed form to Lanarkshire 2011, Corporate Communications & Public Affairs, Floor 7, Council Offices, Almada Street, Hamilton ML3 0AA.

All volunteers will be required to attend specific training events and may be required to complete a Disclosure Scotland application.
