Vulnerable care team praised for support

The Care Inspectorate has given a glowing report to an East Dunbartonshire team providing practical and emotional support to vulnerable children.

The Community Support Team supports children who live in very difficultcircumstances, including those affected by parental substance misuse, parental mental health issues or those subjected to harm or abuse.

The team, which also supervises contact between children and their parents, and supports them to make positive changes in their lives which allows the return of their children, received a positive report following an inspection in December.

The service was rated as Grade 5 (Very Good) – the second highest ranking – for its quality of care and support and management and leadership. It received a Grade 4 (Good) rating for its quality of staffing.

Councillor Michael O’Donnell, convenor of the social work Committee for East Dunbartonshire Council, said, “This is an imaginative service that responds well to the changing needs of very vulnerable children and it is excellent news that the tremendous work they do has been recognised by this inspection.

“The team continues to provide a flexible and responsive service to young people and their families.

“They are highly committed and have demonstrated the positive contribution 
they make to improving children’s lives.”
