Walk for Darryl

THE family of a Newton Mearns man who died last year are taking a charity trip in his honour.

Darryl Elliot, a former Mearns Castle pupil, died on October 18 last year after cardiac surgery.

Now his dad Gordon has organised for 11 members of Daryl’s family to walk the West Highland Way to raise funds for Dreamflight — a charity that changes young lives through taking seriously ill and disabled children on the holiday of a lifetime to Orlando, Florida.

Darryl was not only involved with them by donating his time, but as a 10-year-old boy he was taken on a dream holiday with the charity.

The group of 11 troupers, including two Canadian cousins who have made the trip especially, leave from Milngavie today and hope to finish at Fort William on Tuesday.

Gordon told The Extra: “Darryl has touched so many hearts in such a short space of time, I wanted to give people an opportunity to be involved and raising funds for Darryls favourite charity.

“His personal life brought him in touch with many people reaching out to far and near including his beloved fiance Audrey”.
