Walkers unhappy over lack of Clyde Walkway access

AN ONLINE campaign has been launched in support of walkers being able to gain access to the Clyde Walkway through the Milton Lockhart Estate.

The Facebook campaign is now in full swing, calling for access to the Walkway to be restored.

The owners of Milton Lockhart House, which was re-built a few years ago, constructed a fence and a gate to stop walkers due to privacy fears.

Now locals who used the road claim that the 2003 Land Reform Act – which allows a general right of responsible public access over private land – has been breached.

South Lanarkshire Council’s community services committee discussed the ongoing problem at a meeting last month.
