Walking for funds in memory of Bernice

Monty Jacobs and son Jonny Gordon decided to raise funds for the Glasgow hospice after Bernice Gordon — who received care from PPWH — lost her long fight against cancer.

The duo gathered friends Ian Wilson and Derek Sakol and set out to tackle the West Highland Way on May 31, raising an impressive £12,000 along the way.

Monty told The Extra: “In the final few weeks of Bernice’s life, it was the incredible Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice which helped her live.

“We will always be grateful for the support they provided to ensure her comfort and dignity while our own peace of mind was maintained.”

The cheque — handed over last week — will be used to pay for a team of sessional bereavement counsellors, to support families who lose a loved one under the hospice’s care.

Morag Cunningham, director of fundraising at The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, said: “What a fantastic challenge the team completed.

“We are very honoured to have their support. The funds will be vital in allowing us to continue to care for the loved ones of our patients.”
