Warning over dangers of fake mobile phone chargers

A growing number of the fake products are ending up in UK homes and they are now one of the main fake electrical products entering the country.

There are now increasing reports of the black market gear starting fires and causing electrocutions.

East Dunbartonshire Council are now carrying out a survey to find how much younger residents know about the dangers of fake chargers.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “We are looking for as many under-18s as possible to complete this survey to help us build up a better picture of how much our young people know about the potential dangers of counterfeit chargers.

“The results will then be used to design a campaign, if required, about the potential hazards of charging our gadgets or even highlight the levels of knowledge and safety amongst our young people.”

As an incentive all those who take part in the survey on the council’s website will have the chance to win one of 10 Freeloader Solar Chargers.

The closing date for the survey is December 20 and the winners will be notified in the New Year.
