Waterside crash motorist admits dangerous driving

A speeding motorist who crashed his car into a house in Kirkintilloch almost two years ago has admitted a charge of dangerous driving.

The vehicle driven by Ross Aitken (23) of Kirkintilloch careered into the house at Waterside Road after he lost control of the car on October 27, 2014.

Stephen and Lindy Wright and their children Holly (13) and Scott (11) were at home when Aitken’s Vauxhall Astra crashed through the wall and ended up in their living-room.

The force was so great it propelled Mrs Wright and her daughter about 16ft into the dining room, Glasgow Sheriff Court heard.

Both suffered injuries and the crash caused more than £41,000 worth of damage.

Mrs Wright was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she underwent surgery to remove tissue from a leg wound and received 30 stitches. She was left with permanent scarring.

The teenager was treated for heavy bruising and scratches to her left leg which later developed a blot clot, requiring surgery.

Aitken admitted driving dangerously, driving at excessive speed, losing control and injuring Mrs Wright to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement, and the schoolgirl to her injury.

Sentence was deferred on the accused until the end of July and bail continued.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC told Aitken that custody was “uppermost” in the court’s mind.
