Central Scotland will be affected with temperatures forecast at 3-4c as snow moves eastwards from late morning through to the evening prompting the ‘Be Aware’ warning.

A frontal weather system is moving in from the Atlantic and hitting the cold air which will affect most of Scotland, excluding Shetland and Orkney and other eastern parts.

Parts of the M8, A9 and M74 roads could face disruption due to the adverse conditions and the RAC is advising drivers to prepare ahead of journeys.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Eddy Carroll said: “Snow is likely to fall on ground over 200m over Tuesday and into Wednesday; this is not unusual for this time of year. Accumulations of 4-8cm could be seen in hilly areas in western Scotland.

“As the frontal system moves from west to east and temperatures drop overnight on Tuesday there is a chance that this snowfall could affect lower lying areas as far south as Nottinghamshire.

“We advise everyone to stay up to date with the latest Met Office forecasts and warnings on our app and website, and plan ahead for the expected weather before it arrives.”
