Shoppers eagerly awaited to get inside the supermarket, which has breathed new life into the site of the former bus depot in Milton Road.

Gregg McClymont, MP for Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East, officially opened the store and welcomed along the first customers, including seven-year-old Leo Watson.

Sean Batty also paid a visit to promote the STV Appeal Calendar, which was launched on the same day.

The calendar is exclusively available on the high street from Lidl stores across Scotland with all proceeds will go directly to the STV Appeal.

Lidl has activities for children and parents for the first two weekends and their exclusive Health Factor Bus will be on site to promote healthy eating and living to children and also sampling of various fruit smoothies.

There will also be face painters and balloon modellers.
