‘We’ll bounce back’, says Murphy
With losing party leaders vacating their leadership seat after the surprise result returning prime minister David Cameron back to No10 with a clear majority, Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy has vowed to continue as leader — after only five months in the role — and to run for Holyrood next year.
While pundits suggest that, as Murphy is no longer an MP nor an MSP, he will find it difficult to continue as leader being merely a party member and, despite losing his own seat in an SNP landslide that took no less than 40 seats from Labour, Murphy says he and deputy leader Kezia Dugdale haven’t had time to settle in and that the party needs to have “a period of stability”.
He vowed: “We will bounce back and be the change that working people need.”
