We'll keep you safe is the PF's promise

A public safety project has taken off in Lanarkshire with the approval of Scotland's top law officer.

The procurator fiscal’s office in Almada Street, Hamilton, became the first premises in the county to sign up to the Keep Safe initiative.

Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland QC attended the launch, with Hamilton being the first PF office in Scotland to get involved.

The project was set up by the I Am Me charity and Police Scotland to encourage businesses to provide safe places for disabled and vulnerable people to go if they are lost, scared, in need of help or the victim of a crime.

Most Popular

People who feel vulnerable for whatever reason carry a Keep Safe card which holds information about their health, how they can communicate and the contact details of people who can help them. They have details of the nearest place to seek refuge.

It’s hoped other local businesses and public sector employers will follow the PF office’s lead.

Ruth McQuaid, fiscal for Lanarkshire, said: “Our role as a Keep Safe premises is to display a visible sign on our premises and open our doors to those requiring assistance, whether that be by calling a family member or an emergency service. We can offer a safe place to sit with a cup of tea until help arrives.”
