Westerton folk in shock after major house blaze on Saturday night

Six fire engine crews rushed to tackle a house blaze at Westerton in Bearsden on Saturday.

Thick plumes of smoke could be seen in the night sky as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called out to the home at Henderland Road around 9.45pm.

People in neighbouring homes were evacuated as the firefighters brought the blaze under control.

No one is believed to have been injured but there was significant damage to the house.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We have received a call regarding a fire on Henderland Road, Bearsden at 9.44pm on Saturday, April 25.

“Operations control mobilised six appliances to the incident.

“No casualties have been reported.”

The fire caused damage to neighbouring properties according to reports on social media.

People living in the vicinity of the blaze posted their concern on a local community Facebook page.

One said: “We have now been allowed back in to our house which has been checked and has minor external damage.

“The occupants are safe which is the main thing. In shock. The fire brigade will be here all night.”
