Westerton's festive lights switch-on '˜a huge success'

The organisers of this year's Christmas tree lights switch-on in Westerton were delighted to see so many local people, and some from further away, support the event.

There was a great variety of stalls for everyone to browse while listening to Westerton Male Voice Choir and Westerton Primary School singing group, and to warm the cockles on what was a bitterly cold evening, Bearsden West Community Council handed out free mulled wine and warm mince pies.

In the age of mobile phones, the phone box outside Westerton Hall is used very little and is earmarked for removal by BT. However, Bearsden West Community Council fully supports the proposal that the community should save the phone box and install a community defibrillator.

Money from raffle ticket sales and donations in the defribrilator bucket raised a fantastic £270, taking them even closer to their defibrillator fundraising target than they could have hoped for. Many thanks to everyone who donated.
