What’s your view on Lesmahagow’s road hogs?

THE village of Lesmahagow is synonymous with coal mining, Highland Games and its very own Priory, established in 1144 by David 1 and John, Bishop of Glasgow.

However, there are plans afoot to ensure that motorists think hog whenever they drive through the village...and it’s not because locals have a bad reputation for hogging the roads!

Hogs are, in fact, the eye-catching design council architects have dreamed up for two roundabouts at the entrance to the village.

The hedgehog designs would be paid for using money donated by supermarket giant Tesco which received match funding from the EU.

It is estimated that the project could cost in the region of £20,000 but debate raged over the ‘hedgehogs’ at a recent Lesmahagow Community Council meeting, with some community councillors believing the money could be put to better use.

A Community Council spokesperson said: “We would like to see an improvement in the appearance of the roundabouts as you approach the village but have safety and design concerns about the proposed sculptures.”

What’s your views on the hedgehogs? Are they an interesting concept or could the money be better spent elsewhere?
