Wheely well done for Woodfarm boys

A trio of Woodfarm High boys celebrated success on four wheels recently in a UK schools challenge.

Shaun Gaffney, Euan Waddle and Keir Batchelor reached the final of the 4x4 In Schools competition - a nationwide contest for teams of young people building their own radio-controlled, four-wheel drive vehicles.

The designs had to be created to set specifications, and be able to negotiate a series of obstacles and tasks successfully.

The boys — Team DOCS — also had to design a presentation, undergo an engineering test and pass a pit lane inspection by judges from the Jaguar Land Rover group.

Shaun, Euan and Keir made it through to the national final after being named best rookie team in the Scottish heat, at Fife College.

Team DOCS then joined schools from across the UK at the Land Rover development centre in Warwick — and although they didn’t win, the boys and their school are very proud to have made it to the final.

Woodfarm head teacher Ann Stewart said: “Well done to Team DOCS — and a special thanks to Kenny Bell and Simon Hadfield for all their support and guidance in getting the team to the
finals.”
