Win a car for £1 and help Children’s Games too

Supporters of the Games is a charity set up to help with funding for the International Children’s Games. The world’s biggest multi-disciplined sporting event for young people is being held in Lanarkshire in August and, with 50 days to go, the Supporters kicked off their biggest fundraising drive yet.

The Supporters of the Games grand prize raffle was kicked off in style at Hamilton Park racecourse, who hosted an International Children’s Games race day recently.

Stuart White, the chairman of Supporters of the Games, explained: “We settled on the idea of having a raffle to raise money. Arnold Clark have very generously donated a Fiat Panda as the star prize and, with tickets priced at only £1, we think this is a great opportunity for people to win a car and back the Games.

“But if people miss out on the car there are some other great prizes, like a full central heating system, washing machines and fridge freezers, a television and a round of golf at Gleneagles.

“North and South Lanarkshire Councils are hosting the Games and covering much of the cost, but myself and a few others were determined to help and we’re looking to raise as much money as possible. Any funds we raise will go directly to supporting the athletes, young people and volunteers and will ensure a lasting legacy for sport in Lanarkshire, so I’d urge people to give it a go.”

Sir Arnold Clark, who donated the star prize, said: “We are delighted to donate a vehicle to help raise funds for the International Children’s Games held this year in Lanarkshire. We are proud of North and South Lanarkshire Council’s achievement in bringing the world’s biggest youth sporting event to Scotland and wish them every success for the forthcoming event.”

Councillor Jim Smith, co-chairman of the International Children’s Games organising committee, said: “We are extremely grateful for the efforts of Supporters of the Games in raising money. I think this is a great way for people to back the Games with a chance of winning what is a fantastic prize.”

Councillor Jackie Burns, co-chairman of the International Children’s Games organising committee, added: “The Games is a huge opportunity for Lanarkshire to welcome the world and this raffle is an ideal way for people to get involved.”

Tickets will be on sale at businesses throughout Lanarkshire. The car will also tour Lanarkshire until the start of the Games on August 3 and, wherever it goes, people will have the chance to buy tickets.

The draw will be made ahead of the glittering opening ceremony for the Games, which will take place at Motherwell’s Fir Park on August 4.
