Wind turbine bid suffers double blow

Plans for a wind turbine in Moodiesburn have been turned down for the second time this year.

Aggregate Industries processing plant wanted to erect the 67 metre turbine on its site to the east of Auchengeich Road.

Planning officials recommended the application be refused as it was contrary to policies and would have a significant adverse visual impact on the landscape and urban settlement.

Councillors visited the site before making a decision.

Strathkelvin Labour councillor Willie Hogg put forward an amendment to grant the application. But it was voted down by 10 votes to four.

Planning permission was previously refused in January 2013 for a wind turbine at the location, albeit at a lower height and in a slightly different position.

The recent application attracted 14 comments from residents, with all but a few objecting to the proposal.
