Witnesses sought after sex assault on Lanark train

British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man in a wheelchair on a late night Gasgow-Lanark train.

The assault happened as she was about to alight at Uddingston station, around 10.50pm on Friday November 14.

The 44-year-old victim was grabbed as she was about to get off the train. She was left shaken although physically uninjured by the incident.

The suspect is described as being in his mid-30s, medium build with dark short hair and wearing a cream coloured top and jeans.

CCTV from the stations and on the train has been reviewed as part of the enquiry.

Detective Constable David Merchant, the BTP officer in charge of the enquiry, is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch. He added:

“This was an extremely unsavoury and unwarranted attack and I am appealing for anyone who can provide information which can help identify the man in the wheelchair responsible to come forward.

“This was a very busy service with people returning from a sell-out concert at the Hydro and supporters travelling home after the Scotland and Republic of Ireland match at Celtic Park.”
