Woman died in Thankerton road crash

A 45-year-old woman was killed in a fatal road crash involving a car and a coal lorry on the A73 at Thankerton early on Monday morning.

An 18-year-old girl was taken to Wishaw General with minor injuries.

Police Scotland officers are appealing for information following the crash, which involved a Citroen Berlingo car and the lorry near the junction with Station Road, Thankerton, around 7.40am.

The woman who died was the driver of the car.

Her passenger was released from Wishaw General later that day following treatment to her injuries.

The 56-year-old driver of the lorry was also taken to Wishaw General Hospital suffering from minor injuries.

Sgt David Stenhouse at the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Motherwell is appealing for witnesses to the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to contact him by phoning 101. 
It is the second fatal accident on that road in a year.

In Mayr a 40-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after being struck by a car while crossing the A73 at Sherifflats Road, Thankerton around 11am, but died a week later.
