A police spokesman added: “There are no suspicious circumstances and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”

Earlier reports on social media that the victim was an elderly man were incorrect, he confirmed.

Commuters faced serious disruption on the local rail network for several hours after the incident.

A Scotrail spokesman said today (Tuesday, January 26): “Sadly, due to a person being struck by a train at about 4.20pm, services running between Bishopbriggs and Croy were subject to disruption yesterday evening until about 7.30pm.

ScotRail provided replacement buses, and customers with valid rail tickets were also able to travel on First Glasgow local bus services.”
