Woman hits out at new Colin McRae Trail at Lanark Racecourse

A LANARK resident has attacked the new Colin McRae Trail at the Racecourse as a waste of good woodland and young talent.

The criticism comes from Janey Brownlie who is unhappy with the project, using offenders to create a new network of cycle and bridle paths and walkways through the woods at the course.

The project is designed to encourage more folk to take exercise in the countryside and a useful and productive way of using mostly young and fit offenders.

The scheme was run via the Lanark Playparks Action Group and attracted a £34,000 grant from the memorial fund set up in memory of Lanark rally ace Colin McRae, killed in an accident six years ago.

However, Janey said that the scheme and the way it is carried out are misguided.

“Why carve pathways through perfectly good woodlands?” she said.
