A major rescue operation was launched on the evening of Saturday (October 3) when a 53-year-old woman phoned the police to let them know she was lost in the hills.

She became disorientated while she was walking near Loch Ardinning nature reserve and called for help at about 8pm.

The police responded by sending out a helicopter, a search and rescue dog and Lomond Mountain Rescue Team.

They found her safe and well but a bit cold and tired.

The woman, Mary McMahon, said on her Facebook page: “I cannot thank the police enough for their help in finding me yesterday evening while I was stranded on the hills of Strathblane.

“They went beyond the call of duty to keep me calm while they were looking for me and, once they, with the help of the helicopter rescue team, found me, they waited until Lomond Mountain Rescue Team came to help me off the hillside.”
