Work finally begins on new health centre

Work is due to start on the new Eastwood Health Centre planned for Clarkston’s Drumby Crescent.

The project has received financial close, which means work can finally commence on the health centre, with a formal announcement by the Scottish Government expected early next week.

The facility — offering GP, clinical, social care and self help services — will serve the whole of Eastwood, and is due to open in spring 2016 at the former Isobel Mair School site.

East Renfrewshire Council will fund the health centre by £6.5 million, with the Scottish Government’s health directorate looking to approve a further £9m in funding.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, chair of the CHCP committee, said: “This is wonderful news for East Renand the culmination of a huge amount of partnership work between ERC, NHS and Scottish Futures Trust.

“I am delighted that work can now begin on building this much-needed facility.”

Drumby Crescent residents have been informed by contractor Morgan Sindall that work will start on site from Monday (October 20), when temporary fencing will be put up across the football pitch and some of the car park — the park and ride area will be left free.
