Yorkhill closes doors on A&E department

After celebrating its 100th anniversary last year, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children will close its Accident and Emergency Department and move to the brand new Southern campus.

Children under the age of 16 will now be treated at the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.

There are 244 paediatric beds and all are ensuite single rooms. There is also space for parents to stay overnight.

A&E, inpatients and day surgery services moved on Wednesday, June 10 and Outpatient services moved between Friday, June 12 and Sunday, June 14.

Robert Calderwood, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde chief executive, said: “The new RHSC has been designed to the make any child’s visit to the hospital as pleasant as possible with a cinema, science centre, interactive activity walls, play areas and a roof garden.”
