Keen cyclist Patrick raised an impressive £5,000 for Yorkhill Children’s Charity by cycling all the way from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

The epic journey came after he had life-threatening complications following appendicitis in 2012 and was treated at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Patrick wanted to do something to say thanks for the care he received, so in 2014 he used his October school holiday to raise money for the hospital through his big British cycle.

Amazingly, he completed the 1011-mile challenge in just 11 days.

Patrick said at the time: ‘‘The charity means a lot to me. I am pleased to do them a favour after being treated there.”

A spokesperson from Yorkhill Children’s Charity said: “We are thrilled to announce our incredible young fundraiser Patrick Kiehlmann has been selected as a finalist for this award.

“We are all behind Patrick and hope all of ‘Team Yorkhill’ will show their support by voting for him. Well done, Patrick.”

Dad Mark said: “It was a real surprise to hear that Patrick had been shortlisted from 10,000 nominations. He really just wanted to say thank you to the hospital staff who had saved his life two years earlier and provide some cash to help other sick children have access to toys, books and games that would make their stay a little more like normal life

“Riding his bike is his
passion and the most obvious way he could fundraise.”,

Voting closes on Sunday. Visit http://yorkhill.org/news/vote-young-patrick-in-the-justgiving-awards-2015.
