Young entrepreneurs face East Ren’s Dragons

It may be next stop, Dragons’ Den for enterprising East Renfrewshire youngsters.

An event at Barrhead Foundry saw S3 pupils from St Ninian’s, St Luke’s, Williamwood, Eastwood, Woodfarm and Mearns Castle high schools taking part in a workshop to improve and inspire leadership, creativity and innovation skills.

There, they spent the morning coming up with genius ideas on how East Renfrewshire Council could make or save money.

The event was a follow-on from a first workshop back in May, with challenges then including building a structure using just 20 strands of spaghetti and one marshmallow.

The October workshop was intended to build on their initial enterprising ideas, and the budding young entrepreneurs will face a Dragons’ Den style panel next month, pitching their proposals to the council’s corporate management team.

The winning plan will then receive investment in the form of finance, time, equipment and expertise, in order to make those cost-effective schemes a reality.
