Young people lead the way

A southside Scottish Youth Parliament member is encouraging young people from across Scotland to speak up on the Lead The Way youth manifesto.

The manifesto consultation is offering young people aged 14-25 to have their say on a range of policy issues, with the results fed in to the biggest youth manifesto ever produced in Scotland.

The latest manifesto will follow Change the Picture, published in 2011 for 2011-2016 and voicing the opinions of 43,000 youngsters on issues important to them.

Martin Gallacher, MSYP for Glasgow Cathcart, said: “Young people’s views are paramount to the work that the Scottish Youth Parliament does.

“Every voice is important and I encourage every young person, not just in my constituency or in Glasgow but in Scotland, to speak up in what we are aiming to be Scotland’s biggest youth consultation ever.

“The Scottish Youth Parliament’s manifesto consultation is one of the best and most important ways to share your views, and make your voice heard.

“It’s a little survey that makes a big difference, and every young person I’ve spoken to who has completed the consultation has agreed with that.”

SYP chair Jordan Linden added: “Young people must be at the heart of discussions about their future, leading conversations in their communities, schools, colleges, universities, and workplaces.

“Young people are not only the future of our country, they are the present — and we are asking the young people of Scotland to lead the way.”

The Lead The Way consultation runs until October 31, and is available at the SYP website.
