Young stars bag roles on Theatre Royal stage

Summer school youngsters aged 9-18 are taking a two week course taught by acting professionals. Their hard work will lead to three live performances deliving into New York’s criminal underworld.

A Theatre Royal spokeswoman explained: “Set in 1929, Mob boss Fat Sam is under threat from Dandy Dan’s new gang and their latest weapon — the dreaded splurge gun!

“His only hope is Bugsy Malone, a washed up but well-meaning boxer.

“With twists, turns, showgirls and splurge fights galore, the plot unfolds leading to a spectacular showdown.”

Playing alongside Euan Strachan as Bugsy is Anna Cowen, from Thornliebank, as Blousey Brown. A member of Eastwood’s Harlequin Youth Theatre, 15-year-old Anna is keen to pursue a career on the stage.

And Anna isnt the only star in the making, as sister Lilah (12) is another member of the 90-strong cast.

They’re joined by Stewart Alexander (11), Molly Anderson and Lucy Graham (13) and Eve James (13) from Clarkston, Natasha Jones (14) and Elliot McManus (11) from Thornliebank and Jamie Bogan (11) and Sam Lindsay (11) from Strathbungo.

Robin Bull (10) from Netherlee, Connie Herron (17) from Mount Florida, Shakira O’Neill (12) from Govanhill, Gabby Rose (10) from Newton Mearns and Chloe Yardley (14) from Giffnock will also be treading the boards.
