MP sparked into action over energy sector report

Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows is demanding Scottish Secretary David Mundell MP explain the Government's approach towards the energy sector, following a critical report from EY '“ a global business services firm.

The EY report condemned the UK Government’s financial neglect and hindering of development in the energy sector, it went on to claim this is damaging for the UK’s energy security.

Mrs Fellows took the opportunity to highlight the importance of remaining in the EU for the UK’s energy development and investment.

She said: “The UK Government has failed to properly support and develop the energy sector. It has also made leaving the EU a possibility which will further endanger our energy security.

Fuel poverty is an outrage in North Lanarkshire, as figures show that as of 2014 there is a staggering 34 per cent of people who can’t afford to heat their homes. Rocketing energy prices has also brought our steel industry to crisis.

“Energy is an essential part of any society, but it is particularly important to Scotland’s priorities as we seek to expand and develop renewables and heat our homes.”
